Reference average emission factors were used after an analysis of the P&amp;IDs. The study included the inventory of each possible source of leakage using an LDAR program management tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Project scope<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessment covered all new process units within the chemical complex, focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identification of potential sources of fugitive emissions (valves, flanges, pumps, compressors, sampling points, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review of <strong>Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&amp;IDs)<\/strong> and process flow data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Estimation of emissions based on <strong>industry-standard emission factors<\/strong> and reference methodologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inventory and classification of equipment components with potential leakage points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preparation of a detailed <strong>LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) management plan<\/strong> for implementation during operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The emission estimation process was carried out following internationally recognized protocols and best practices for the Oil &amp; Gas and petrochemical industries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Component identification and inventory<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extraction of component data from detailed engineering documentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Categorization by equipment type and operating conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Application of emission factors<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use of <strong>average emission factors<\/strong> from authoritative sources (e.g., USEPA, API, EEA).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adjustment of factors based on equipment characteristics and service type.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LDAR integration and emissions modeling<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Incorporation of results into an <strong>LDAR management system<\/strong> to facilitate ongoing monitoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Estimation of expected emissions for regulatory reporting and project design optimization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Results and added value<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study delivered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>comprehensive inventory<\/strong> of components susceptible to fugitive emissions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Estimated total VOC emissions<\/strong> per process unit, supporting early-stage environmental decision-making.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>baseline reference<\/strong> for future LDAR campaigns and emissions reduction initiatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical recommendations for leak prevention and control measures to be integrated during commissioning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results provided the client with <strong>clear visibility of potential environmental liabilities<\/strong> and ensured compliance with <strong>international environmental performance standards<\/strong> during the EPC phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Closing statement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this project, <strong>EHS Techniques<\/strong> demonstrated its expertise in <strong>fugitive emission quantification and LDAR strategy implementation<\/strong>, supporting the Oil &amp; Gas and chemical industries in <strong>achieving efficient, compliant, and low-emission operations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EHS Techniques was contracted by a multinational engineering and construction company to estimate fugitive emissions from new units at a chemical plant in Turkey for the production of purified PTA.
