In the current climate emergency, the detection and control of methane emissions is a key topic of debate. With a global warming potential 80 times higher than that of CO2 and responsible for more than 25% of the warming we are currently experiencing, its mitigation and control is the fastest way to curb rising temperatures.
At EHS Techniques, we understand that for companies to meet established standards, estimates are not enough; real, precise, and consistent data are required. Therefore, we have integrated Discover AMLD (Advanced Mobile Leak Detection) technology into our portfolio of solutions.
What is Discover AMLD technology?
The Discover system is a high-precision sensor platform integrated into our zero-emission electric van, transforming it into an advanced mobile laboratory for leak detection in gas distribution networks. Its technological core is a TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) spectrometer, a method that uses laser beams to analyze the chemical composition of the air and quantify methane emissions.
This technology allows for the inspection of large sections of the natural gas network with total operational efficiency, without disrupting traffic or field operations. To ensure maximum precision in every finding, the Discover software records and processes real-time GPS coordinates, as well as wind speed and direction captured by the anemometer. By integrating these atmospheric variables, the system interprets how they affect the dispersion of methane and ethane concentrations detected by the laser, allowing it to locate the exact source of the emission and prioritize follow-up investigations with high reliability.

The Ethane Key
One of the greatest challenges in inspecting gas distribution networks is avoiding “false positives” caused by biogenic gas (gas from sewers or landfills). Discover solves this through ethane identification.
Since ethane is exclusive to network gas and is not produced by biological processes, it serves as the definitive proof of a leak. This extreme sensitivity, capable of detecting levels in parts per billion, ensures that every alert is real, allowing maintenance teams to prioritize repairs with absolute confidence.
What positive impact can this technology have?
The application of this technology to methane leak control demonstrates that it is possible to cover large geographical areas quickly and efficiently. By locating invisible leaks early, we help our clients transform technical knowledge into concrete mitigation actions.
The Discover AMLD system is not just a detection tool; it is the key piece for the gas industry to achieve the transparency and significant reductions that society and the planet demand for the future.
