EHS Techniques has a network of local social managers throughout Spain

Implementation of the social engagement expert in renewable energy and gas projects

EHS Techniques has a network of territorial social engagement experts throughout the Spanish territory. This figure enables close engagement with the agents of the territory, promoting the legitimacy of the project and active listening to them. These actions allow us to work towards the social license to operate (LSO) of the projects and their advantageous positioning in the face of future public connection bids and subsidies from the sector. We currently have experts working on projects both in development and in construction and operation in 9 autonomous communities.

Project scope

EHS Techniques has built a nationwide network of territorial Social Managers, currently active in projects at various stages — from development to construction and operation — across nine autonomous communities in Spain.

The Social Manager acts as a bridge between the project and the local community, promoting dialogue, trust, and mutual understanding. Their work contributes directly to the Social License to Operate (SLO) and strengthens the project’s positioning in future public tenders and funding opportunities within the renewable energy sector.

Methodology

The Social Manager model developed by EHS Techniques follows a structured, proximity-based methodology:

  1. Territorial and social diagnosis
    • In-depth understanding of the local context, socioeconomic dynamics, and community concerns.
    • Identification and mapping of key stakeholders, including residents, landowners, associations, and local authorities.
  2. Stakeholder engagement strategy
    • Development of a tailored engagement plan that prioritizes transparency, early communication, and continuous feedback.
    • Definition of key messages and channels to facilitate trust-based dialogue.
  3. Implementation and follow-up
    • Ongoing interaction with local actors throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Monitoring of social indicators and adaptation of the strategy to evolving community needs.
  4. Local integration and positive impact
    • Promotion of initiatives that create shared value, such as local employment, training programs, and community benefit schemes.

Results and added value

The implementation of the Social Manager role has proven essential for:

  • Enhancing the legitimacy and acceptance of renewable energy projects at the community level.
  • Reducing social conflict and aligning project objectives with local priorities.
  • Building long-term trust between developers, administrations, and communities.

EHS Techniques’ Social Managers provide a practical and strategic approach to social engagement, ensuring that renewable energy developments contribute positively to the territories where they are established.

Closing statement

Through this initiative, EHS Techniques consolidates its leadership in social management for renewable energy projects, combining technical expertise with a commitment to listening, dialogue, and positive territorial impact.
